Finally....

Well as of yesterday they finished cleaning our pool. It took two days and they're finally done with it. Thankfully its a salt water pool. We're pretty excited about it especially since we're anticipating Jack to love the water as much as he did at the beach. I thought to myself the other day I really need to put either some pics or some video up here. Most of you can see the pics La post on fb, but I eventually intend to try and be a bit more entertaining for the reader.

My first real Omani moment happened yesterday. I was trying to exchange some us cash for some omr. I happened to be near a popular resortish hotel so I assumed they'd exchange my cash. They wouldn't but told me their was a bank down stairs. So I descend this huge marbel staircase and begin to venture around. I find the bank, but it was closed and reopened at 3. It was about 240ish, so I figured I wouldn't mind sitting and taking a gander at this really nice hotel. Finally it was 3, so I scramble over to the bank and wait in line to see the teller. I give him my cash and he says he can't exchange it there and that I need to go up to reception and ask where I can go. Well there is one place I know of that does such things and it is about 40 min. from where I currently was, so I gave Salim my all things Omani guru a call and asked where to go. Well he told me all the shops were closed until about 5pm. So I admitted defeat and went home early for the day and then the fam and I made a family outing to the one place I know. Even still that one place couldn't exchange my whole amount. I'm still not 100% sure why, but I think the guy told me it was because of the dates on the bills...or he was lazy....I'm not sure which.

Fun fact: We learned last night video chat is much better on gmail than on skype. Thanks to Tay and Holli for teaching us that little secret.

  1. You might have converted your dollars to riyals by now. In my opinon your best bid would to go to Muthrah or Al Ruwi. They are in close proximity to you. Also, there are plenty of money exchanger(Sarraf in Arabic) in downtown Al Seeb(the place I grew up). It takes 30-40 minutes depending on traffic if you take the highway. It gets congested sometimes. Your going to have a more pleasent and enjoyable ride if you take the cornesh road (the road goes along the beach).

Anyway, Al Seeb worth paying a vist. It's must to explore. Nice Beaches! Great Souks! Authentic Omani food!
