The Office

Here's a picture of the outside of my office here in Oman. It's actually a villa and doubles as a place to stay when folks who work for the field come through this way.

There are 3 nationals working here at the office. One is Salim (sounds like saulem), the other is Sulieman (sounds like swayman) and I have been unable to understand the other guys name.

Salim works for Lufkin and has some serious connections here in Oman. I was told he's the "fixer" and can get anything you need he also is in charge of safety for us here in the Sultanate. Salim seems like a very nice guy I'm working on having him give me the real Muscat tour. From what I can gather Suliman is somewhat of a admin. Judging from his desk located in what would be call the lobby or foyeur I assume he mainly attends to admin things. The 3rd friend I've met is what I was told is the "tea boy". Although he's hardly a boy, I'm guessing he's late 30's early 40's, kind of short, has what I would consider a flat top (although thats more the product of the shape of his head) and sports a sweet patchy mustache. He speaks next to no english, but he's essentially a butler. He brings tea, water, any kind of beverage you'd like, apparently those are the only words he knows. He also doubles as the designated daily car washer. Its actually illegal to have a dirty vehicle. I saw many people washing cars yesterday, so I assume most people have "car washers".

Today I will be making my way to look at some villas. Luckily, Jackie, the wife of the Lufkin employee Mark was kind enough to lend me her camera so I should have some good pics to upload for all to see.

  1. Okay, I want to be the "tea boy". If something happens to him, I'll take over. I'll even serve you a beer, Jeff!!!! Well, you sound like you're adjusting pretty quickly to the Mid East. I'm really enjoying hearing all about it. It's like an adventure for me!! Can't wait to see more of the villas. By the way, taken a camel ride yet?? I bet Jack is gonna' like that!
